The photos on this page were taken during our August 2009 visit to our condo at Sand Dollar and Bari Reef. During that visit we were lucky enough to meet Dr. Sylvia Earle who was here to accept a Bonaire’s first Lifetime Achievement Award.

Alan shot all the underwater photos on this page using a Nikon D200 in an Aquatica housing. The photos were taken with either the Nikon 12-24mm f4 zoom lens and Aquatica 8 inch dome port or Nikon 60mm f2.8 lens using the Aquatica macro port. He now uses a dual Nikon SB-105 strobe set.

As you can see turtles were very photogenic on this trip. Another big part of this trip was a milestone for Joan as she logged her 300th career dive. The lower left photo shows her making “that one giant leap” and the bottom center photo shows her celebrating underwater.

Also on this trip Joan spent almost forty hours stenciling an undersea mural in our condo. If you would like to see how she created it and how it came out you can go to mural project.

If you would like to see the photos from our other visits to Bonaire go to August 2007 photo gallery or February 2008 gallery .You can see more of Alan’s photojournalism work for The New York Times at his web site. His underwater photography has been featured in the travel section of the paper.
